This umbrella has a thick fabric that does not let the sun through. The size was what I consider a standard umbrella, big enough to provide shade or rain protection for an adult. My favorite part about it is the way it opens and closes with a button. Especially in rainy conditions, the button to close it is a very useful feature to avoid getting soaked while I put my umbrella away. Despite having a nice, thick fabric, it is still lightweight and folds up small enough that I could put it into a diaper bag or larger purse. I'd recommend this for both rain and sun.

Fantastic umbrella. I believe I paid around or less than $10. I used it to walk to the gym and did notice a difference in the South Florida summer sun. It isn't a miracle worker, so towards the end of my walk, I was feeling the heat, but it made my 30+ minute walk more bearable.
No issues open and closing it and it held up to heavy rain and wind pretty well. Having the umbrella carry sleeve was also convenient and made sure my wet umbrella didn't make anything in my bag wet if I had to put it away.
Definitely great for the South Florida sun!

I am so glad I bought this umbrella. I am just 5 feet and it is not overly large for my size. I prefer to have full coverage protection rather than less coverage. It is strong and sturdy. I really appreciate how I need to just press the button to open and close it. This is an amazing umbrella for the price and I highly recommend it.

This is an overall very good product. I am disappointed though that as a Vine Reviewer I was not offered it. So my review is based on having paid the full retail price, which is comparatively very good.
Overall well made and operates smoothly at the touch of a button. Silverized fabric and black lining do in fact make a barrier to visible light. Is it though UV protected? I don't have a UV meter, so I don't know for sure. But if you are buying this specifically for UV protection, as I did, given the materials, it will likely offer a high percent of protection.
If you are highly sensitive like me, keep in mind that multiple levels of protection are your best bet. Stay out of sunlight, wear white, long sleeved shirts, eye protection and even a big brimmed sun hat.
Most people confuse UV and visible light. They are not the same. They are two different wave lengths. A cloudy day is no protection per se, as UV can penetrate clouds. As well, even in the shade or under an umbrella you are still getting reflected, ambient UV exposure.
I don't like sun screens, so I take extreme physical protection, even to wearing gloves when working outside. I am quite an alarming specter.
A few downsides. It is very difficult to roll it up tightly enough to put it back into the sleeve for storage. And repeatedly rolling it and compressing it is sure to eventually wear aware the silvery coating, as with a tarp. So I loosely gather it and put it with the top and handle closed on a closet shelf.
Even with the several downsides, I am awarding 5 Stars.

I just received it. Will submit an update some time later after I’ve used it for a month or so.
But OMG this umbrella is sturdy!
Easy breezy OPEN and CLOSE buttons. It’s spring loaded so it’s nothing like those other regular umbrellas. You must push it together to reduce it back to its original size.
This is not a flimsy umbrella. I understand why they have a 100% guarantee.
Can’t quite get over it.
UPDATE: it’s absolutely wonderful. Definitely cooler underneath, I’m guessing maybe 10 degrees. The open/close feature works consistently. It fits into my bag that has a side pouch for water bottles etc. It’s very sturdy, holding up in windy weather.

The open close button wasn't working properly, I was looking forward to use it ASAP. Also I had to wait more days to be delivered, did not arrive on time.

It seems like the sun protection does help a little. It’s definitely better than not using it. As for the cooling effect, though, I don’t really notice any difference compared to a regular umbrella. I don’t feel any cooler when I’m under it.

I liked the idea of this umbrella, but in reality it didn't work for me. First of all, it's HUGE when it's open! I wanted to use this for vacations when I'm sightseeing and don't want to wear a sweaty sun hat. If I'm walking on the street with this, I'll take someone's eye out! Also, it's a little heavier than a regular umbrella. Holding this up for long periods of time would be too much, especially for someone with arthritis. So I think I'll just use a regular travel size umbrella even though it won't have the UV protection. If this was smaller and lighter I would use it.
